British Columbia Casino Revenues Up

British Columbia's casino revenues are steadily rising while the public support for gaming is continuously dropping. These are the results of the B.C. Lottery Corporations annual report for 2005-2006.

From 58 percent the public support drops to 51 percent, but the corporation's target is 75 percent, still a long way to go.

The casino blames the media for covering the casino gambling and increased casino advertising from operators both inside and outside the province. The report says, "These two factors correspond to an increase in public perception that there is too much gaming in British Columbia and too many casinos."

The casino corporation may have a hard time achieving its goal to have a strong public acceptance. Thus, the corporation may fail to reach their business and revenue targets.

Slot machine are in the lead position with $763 million; the biggest single take was $215 million at Great Canadian Casinos' River Rock Casino in Richmond. The second is the Burnaby's Gateway Casino Burnaby with $152 million in revenue. Third is Great Canadian's Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam with $129 million.

Casino gambling will hit $1.225 billion by 2008.

These high revenues made casino take over revenues from lotteries. This is the first time the casino outstripped lottery in B.C.'s history.
